Are You Still Legal? Without Education You Are Not.

It is that time of year when real estate licensees begin to worry if they need to complete their continuing education requirements to renew their license.

To determine if you need MCE/CE this year, please check your pocket license and determine the renewal date. If you do not have your pocket license go to this link: https://www.llronline.com/POL/REC/. On the right-hand side click the link for “Licensee Lookup”. Then type in your full name. When your profile appears, click on your licensee number. The pop-up box will tell you the expiration date of your license.

If the date is June 30, 2016 then you most likely need to complete 8 hours or MCE/CE in order to renew your license.

SC Code §40-57-130 requires as a condition to renewing your broker of salesman license completion biennially of 8 hours of continuing education. Two hours must be in current federal or state law affecting brokers and salesmen.  The core class offered by Blair Cato provides 4 hours of federal and state law education.

The exceptions to the education requirement are:

  1. If you completed the post-licensing course you are exempt for the period during which the course was taken.
  2. Inactive status (must complete 8 hours to move back to active).
  3. Nonresident broker or salesman who satisfies the educational requirements of the jurisdiction where they live.
  4. If you are at least 65 years old and have been licensed for a minimum of 25 years.

If you take more than the required hours during a two year period you MAY NOT carry the hours forward.  However, you may take the classes anytime during the two-year period.

Today’s historical fact: Bull Street was named for Stephen Bull (c. 1733-1800). He was the grandson of Lt. Governor William Bull and a general in the American Revolution. General Bull was one of a few members of the famous Charleston Bull Family to take up arms against the King. General Bull fought with General William Moultrie in the American victory at Port Royal Island. He also fought at Savannah and Beaufort. After the war he served in the Second General Assemblies of South Carolina and SC House of Representatives. He was twice elected to the SC Senate but declined to serve. He is buried at the beautiful and haunting church remains of Sheldon Church in Beaufort, SC. If you get an opportunity to visit Sheldon Church, you will not be disappointed.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Sheldon_Church_Ruins
